The Soft Touch Band

Founded in 1980 under director Paul Rooney, Soft Touch is a classic big band with full horn and rhythm sections and two outstanding vocalists. We specialize in swing-era music from the '40s to the '60s, plus Broadway hits and classic rock favorites.

Our all-volunteer group is comprised of retired professional musicians and serious amateurs. We donate our engagement fees toward college scholarships to local high school seniors who have excelled in music. So far, we have awarded over $130,000 to talented local students.

Besides private events for corporate and individual clients, we also play several outdoor concerts each summer, sponsored by Parks and Recreation departments in the greater Boston area, which are free and open to the public.

The band is based in Waltham, and is directed by Kurt Thaller.
